using magnesol for biodiesel processingusing magnesol for biodiesel processing is become more widespread than ever. The most obvious advantage is that, being a dry wash adsorbent, you no longer need to wet wash then 'dry' your biodiesel. The process of adsorption means that the contaminents acculumate on the surface of your biodiesel / methyl estersleaving a clean product ready for your final diesel polishing stage. However, using magnesol for biodiesel processing is not its only application - it's already being used to great effect in the food industry, cleaning edible oils, so it must be effective! By allowing you to remove the water-washing stage of your biodiesel, you gain in several ways: Magnesol is a product name used by the american company Dallas Group. The generic underlying chemical compound most commonly suggested as a substitute for using magnesol for biodiesel processing is magnesium silicate, magnesol being a synthetic magnesium silicate adsorbent. However, focusing on magnesol, Dallas group claim it can be used both to replace the washing stage and as a polishing stage agent, and that it offers several advantages in terms of product quality and processing efficiency. A by-product of using magnesol for biodiesel processing is what's become termed 'filter cake'. This rich waste product is thought to have potential for use in biomass fuel production and animal feed suppliment, amongst other applications. There is a vigorous online community devoted to production of biodiesel, whether at home or on a larger scale. Links to a number of these can be found in our links section.
