solar energy is simply the energy of the sun. When people talk about solar energy in renwable terms, they tend to mean either:

photovoltaics
Direct conversion of sunlight into electricity

solar water heating
Using the thermal energy of the sun to directly heat water

As it happens, most forms of energy come indirectly from the sun meaning those of a more pedantic nature can usually make a decent case for virtually any form of energy being solar. Wind power to fossil fuels - all wouldn't exist if it wasn't for the sun.

However, this section of the site is intended to look at all aspects of solar energy, from the the latest developments to theory and pratical applications which will help you tap this free and (usually) environmentally friendly, green energy source.
